How to Pick a Thoughtful Gift for Employees

Whether you are celebrating a milestone, onboarding a new employee, or wanting to show appreciation, gifts for employees always have a positive impact. However, there are many choices and questions for employers when it comes to gifts for employees - will they like the gift? Will they use the gift? Is it nice enough?

We have broken down some of the key components to think about when considering gifts for employees below:

Usability

“Will my employee ever use this?” is an initial thought that pops into most employers' heads. Generally, we want the gifts we spend money on to be used and appreciated. Some high use gift ideas generally revolve around things most people do daily such as eating, hygiene, and working related gifts. These categories can include gifts such as food, toiletry bags, and customized pens - all things that are virtually guaranteed to be used. Who would ever ‘not use’ a basket of candy and chocolate??

Thoughtfulness

A sleeve of generic pens doesn't exactly scream ‘thoughtful’. Nor does giving golf tees to an employee who does not know what a fairway is. That is why it is crucial to make sure that your employee gifts are things that are personal yet realistic. Gifts such as gift baskets and personalized items show that consideration went into their gift choice.

Variety

The old saying goes “do not look a gift horse in the mouth” meaning to not nitpick or criticize gifts, however, most people who receive a gift think about what they would rather have if the gift is not up to par. Odds are that your employee appreciates choices. That is why choosing a gift that inherently offers variety can be a good idea. Examples of these sorts of gifts could be assorted gift baskets, variety of coffees, or multiple color clothing items.

Regardless of who your employees are, make sure that their gifts are selected thoughtfully with usability in mind and with a variety of options.
